[Many] Americans under the age of 65 did not have sufficient medical coverage last year to shield them from financial hardship if they ended up in the emergency room or were seriously ill. Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund has dealt with this issue for over ten years....

2006 was a good year for us,
and 2007 looks to be even better. Last year you helped us raise enough
money to take care of $67,000in medical bills for 251 of our South
Whidbey neighbors. That’s a far cry from ten years ago.....

We’re happy to report that despite an
impressive increase in the number of calls for help we’ve received
this year, your support has kept us in good financial health. We
assisted 203 of our South Whidbey neighbors with essential
prescriptions and medical services in the first three quarters of
2006, an increase of 19% over last year.....

Dear Friends,
Every week we meet real examples of that
often-quoted statistic that nearly 50% of bankruptcies in the U.S.
are caused by medical bills. We hear from people
who have had to cut back on necessary medications or put off needed
medical tests. We hear from parents who are ignoring their own
symptoms of ill health in order to pay the rent or keep their kids
in shoes. We talk with people with low and even moderate incomes who
are struggling to keep their heads above water while chronic illness
or a medical emergency takes a toll on the family.....
